Why I write

Life has a strange way of teaching its biggest lessons long after we've made the mistake.

Sometimes the lesson arrives in the bottom of a whisky glass. Sometimes it comes after a failed interview, a broken relationship, a lost job, an empty bank account, or a decision that keeps you awake years later.

At the time, none of it feels like a story.

It just feels like life.

Wiser at 40 is a collection of true stories drawn from my own experiences. Every story happened. Some are funny. Some are painful. Some still make me cringe. A few almost ended very differently.

I don't write because I have all the answers.

I write because I've lived through enough wrong turns to know that we're often far more alike than we think.

If you've ever doubted yourself, started over, made terrible decisions, laughed at the worst possible moment, loved the wrong person, chased money, lost money, quit a job, stayed in one too long, or wondered whether everyone else had life figured out except you, you're in the right place.

These aren't stories about success.

They're stories about becoming.

You're in the right place if…

  • You have doubted yourself

And wondered whether everyone else had it figured out.

  • You have started over

More than once, and not always by choice.

  • You have chased money

Made it, lost it, and learned what it cost.

  • You have loved badly

    And survived the education.

  • You have quit a job

Or stayed in one far too long.

  • You have laughed

    At exactly the wrong moment.

I don't write because I have all the answers. I write because I've lived through enough wrong turns to know that we're often far more alike than we think.
